's head now into europe. very patchy around here. this is extremely unstable across much of the continent. when i pull back the clouds, you'll see what i'm talking act. we've got low-pressure systems just dotted around the continue innocent. lots of windy and wet weather toward the west and the north. down here towards the southeast, we've got a low moving in that's going to bring some more severe weather in terms of the thunderstorms, and lots of snow. frigid air is descending from the north, and we'll see a lot of snowfall even quite far south into italy and the northern balkans. i want to show you some video coming out of ukraine. now, this is in kiev, the capital. this is the first snow of the winter. now, last friday's temperatures were the warmest seasonably that they have been for the last hundred years. many people found themselves quite unprepared for the sudden change in the weather. commuters in the region found themselves inconvenienced as the snow led to a lot of congestion on the roads in the downtown area. road crews were scrambling out, trying to get the mess cleaned up, p

that warmer weather come through. all right. i want to take you now to europe. central locations enjoying peaceful weather at the moment but a big storm moved through and i want to show you what happened in austria. the snowplows are out in force here but unfortunately lots of cars and trucks slid off the roadways and this resulted in widespread road closures. at the same time, towing services were having to work very long hours as you can see. cars there just in the ditch really dreadful situation. thankfully the fair weather has moved in as this storm moves off to the east and has to move somewhere and see it here pushing in towards western russia. the front is going to be bringing mountain snow towards the north of turkey but the south of turkey is seeing more heavy rain. very unwelcomed rain. the southwest has been getting a drenching this week. now, out towards the west we have another system coming in. precipitation coming in across the western british aisisles ann towards france and spain. this is going to be rain rather than snow getting warmer here. the frigid air to the east. to

on saturday. and tropics, expect afternoon rainshowers and thunderstorms to continue to pop up as well. europe, specifically here into the balkans and turkey. been watching a very strong storm system. i want to show you some video out of instanbul. snowfall coming down here, causing headaches for traffic locally in the area. also seeing people really just attempt to clean up the mess from the road crews and this looks like the snow has been falling for the last several days. now starting to clear up and then unfortunately monday to tuesday, the next weather system is going to develop out italy. push off toward the east there. and there you see more rough weather. let's take a look farther toward the west toward the british isles, a storm system throughout the weekend. widespread rain, about 60 millimeters of rain in a few areas, not to mention gale force winds. that continues to push through. temperatures remaining to the low teens in london and paris, not the case off toward the east, take a look at moscow and kiev, minus 13 and minus 10 on saturday. here is a look at the extended forecast. >

the single digits there, up to 13 going through your thursday. now as we take a look over towards europe, we're also watching a series of low-pressure systems one moving across the lowcountrys bringing snow across portions of germany, extending down through the alpine regions. some break in the action behind it but then the next system, a very large storm system is starting to move in off the atlantic toward the british isles. this will bring widespread rain showers. the problem here, the ground is already saturated. you have been seeing consistent rains recently so there is the risk of flooding. out ahead of it, though, things will be warming up. unseasonal temperatures are in store across london and paris, down through madrid at 12 degrees, over towards rome you're seeing a high of 15 but not everybody is sharing on the warm weather. stockholm, only minus 4 for your high on your friday. now here's a look at your extended forecast. >>> we'll be back in 30 minutes with more news. for all of us here at nhk world, thanks for joining us. have a great day wherever you are. -- captions by vitac -
